"So what was it like being stranded on an island for two years!? You got a great tan, by the way. Was Boone still being Boone?" Shannon ignored Janie just like she usually did when her friend wouldn't keep quite, something that used to happen often. Her head was turned towards the window, staring at the bustling life of L.A. she had completely forgotten and quite frankly, didn't really miss. Her nose picked up the scent of pizza and beer, not surprising since she was sitting in a pizza place.

"What would you girls like to eat?" Shannon turned and looked at the woman, her eyes quickly glancing to the menu.

"I'll have a small pizza, a diet coke, and a large fry." Janie stopped talking and stared at her friend in awe before ordering her own food.

"Um...I'll have a diet coke and a small hamburger please." The waitress nodded and took the menu's before dashing off into the kitchen once more. "Jeese, Shannon, aren't you a little worried about getting fat?" A snarky response was in order and she had to take it.

"I've been stranded on an island for two years, chased by polar bears and invisible monsters, and I've been eating nothing but boar and fruit. No, I'm not worried about getting fat. At least, not for a couple of days."

"Right. So, who is this Sayid guy?" She didn't respond at first, wondering what she could say that would describe him.

"He's just a guy." Yeah, right.

"What kind of guy?"

"What do you mean? He's just a nice guy I met on the island, no big deal." Janie grinned and tapped a freshly manicured nail on the counter.

"You're lying. Has the ice queen fallen in, dare I say, love?" Shannon gave her a strange look, praying her cheeks weren't giving her away.

"Food's here." They looked up to see their meal lowered down onto the table, a large pizza greeting the very relieved blonde. If there was anything that could shut her friend up it was food. As they sat there for what felt like forever she began to wonder if she really had fallen in love. She had heard about that feeling you get when someone means that much to you, and she was afraid that this feeling had befallen her.

"Where do you plan on staying? If you need a place for awhile I've got a spare bedroom." That's just what she needed.

"That would be great, thanks."

"No prob." Janie gave her a strange look before taking another sip from her coke, Shannon was too wrapped up in her thoughts to notice.

"Thank you for the room, Charlie." Sayid nodded to the british man, eyeing his surroundings indifferently.

"Your quite welcome, mate." Charlie grinned and set his bag of worn clothes and a few books he had purchased on his way over. There was a loud noise coming from across the room and a large man greeted them warmly,

"Charlie! I told them you weren't dead, didn't believe me though, thought I was wasted. Well come to think of it I was." He grinned and walked over to the two survivors, shaking their hands. "Nice to meet you uh-"

"Sayid." He smiled once more and continued. "Hope this is okay for you guys, when I heard you were coming back I couldn't think of a better person to dump this place on."

"Why thank you, Bill." They continued talking as Sayid made his way to a worn chair by a dusty window. He had been in worse places and something told him Charlie had too. The dark skinned man found his thoughts drifting towards Shannon, a girl he had come to know well over their two years on the island. He knew it would be best to forget about her, she had probably already forgotten about him and moved on to someone else. He didn't believe that at all.

"Well I'll go and let you guys get situated, call me if you need anything." He headed out the door, leaving puffs of dust behind.

"Call him? How will we do that?" Charlie laughed and pointed to a phone that blended almost perfectly into the wall.

"Suspect he'll want us to use that." He then held up a piece of paper with two phone numbers scribbled on it. "One is Bill's and the other is ours. You all right, mate?"

"Yes, I'm fine." The blonde man looked him over and nodded before turning to head out the door himself.

"I'm supposed to meet Claire at that pizza place on the corner. You want anything?"

"No, thank you."

"Alright, see you in a bit." He left, leaving Sayid to wallow in his thoughts of Shannon. He wished he knew how to reach her so she could tell him how she had already met a man and that she was happy, but he didn't even know where to find her. Something inside him wanted to see her again more then anything, he wanted to tell her how he felt. Maybe, just maybe she felt the same.

Five minutes later he was so deep in thought he didn't even hear the phone ring.
